Thomas Wikman, Voice Teacher
News - Wikman, Young Singers Collide
(May 26, 2009) Suddenly and without warning in mid-May, 14 voice majors at Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music found themselves immersed in a three-week seminar with master voice teacher Thomas Wikman.
Professor Wikman, the trainer of nearly 50 professional opera and concert singers, took over the students' weekly voice lessons on May 18. Their regular voice teacher, Karen Brunssen, had asked Wikman to fill in while she recovered from an unplanned eye surgery.
So far, comments have been positive on all sides, with one student remarking that "Wikman rocks my world."
Ms. Brunssen, a distinguished mezzo-soprano and herself a Wikman student, is recovering nicely at her country retreat in Galena.
